Off to the Races!

Top: J.Crew, Dress: J.Crew, Necklace: J.Crew, Shoes: Modcloth, Hat: Target, Lips: Fuchsia Fusion by Revlon

So I just barely got my SLR working again...but there are still a few bugs happening like....the flash doesn't work and the camera focuses on things far away rather than the front most subject (see pics above)

Freakin camera . . .

My first night in D.C., my new roomies were SO welcoming to me and invited to go to Virginia with them to a Polo game.

Duh.  I went.

We got all dressed up and wore the biggest hats we could find and headed off.

There were some mighty fine dressed people there.  There was this one dude that had pink floral pants on and a pink plaid shirt with a seersucker blazer . . . . and then he left in his Lamborghini.

Whatevs.

It was super fun.  I felt like Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady."

"Come on Dover!  Move your blooming' Aaaaaaaaaaa-ss."

I kept my mouth shut, though and full of pulled pork sandwich.

Pushing your limits...

laurabphoto.blogspot.com

This week, I'm sending in a resume and video sample of my dancing to a contemporary dance company in Maryland called Clancyworks Dance Company.

Wish this girl some luck.

My soul misses the dance.

What the DUCK?

laurabphoto.blogspot.com

What the Duck?  What is Duck?  Since when do they name a beach after my favorite 90's hockey team?

I love you Emilio Estevez.

Duck Beach.

In short, it's a place where a giant amount of Mormons get their Mormon fix of sun, fun, water, hot tub, diet coke, and the prospect of finding their Eternal Companion (the latter has some sub-categories to that like.....making out in the sand? or back rubs on the midnight beach while stargazing?)

Watch this video to see the BIMBOS that CNN makes us out to be.

This experience has been funny for me.  I kinda just feel like I'm back in Provo again, but now I'm the youngest one instead of the oldest.

I was talking to this dude and once he told me he was born in 77', I started to notice that he had the face of a newborn Shar Pei dog.

Then I really started to peace out when he told me that my first name would go really well with his last name.

Cotton Candy is my FAVORITE!

jcrewwedding-1

Washington D.C. is raining manna on me.

When I first got to the D.C. I instantly went to the J.Crew in Georgetown.

It's my natural instinct . . . I smell No. 2 pencil skirt from a mile away.

I went into the store initially to see if I could transfer to work at their store.

I spoke with the manager and mentioned that I had worked for J.Crew for almost 2 years.

She got really excited . . . so I got excited with her.

She said, "that's perfect because we are looking for someone with experience.  We are needing a bridal specialist!"

I beg your pardon?

I got REALLY excited.

The Georgetown J.Crew has all the wedding and bridesmaids dresses in the store, she says

A bridal specialist works one on one with brides and bridesmaids helping them find the perfect dress and maybe even talking to them about colors, wedding themes, etc, she says.

The appointments are booked for the next three months, she says

I'm sure I had a glazed look on my mouth because I imagined her head as a giant ball of cotton candy I was so excited.

I told her I would LOOOOOVE to be a bridal specialist and she said GREAT, we'd love to have you.

I, Meg, am about the help the world be a better place.

The men are so nice! Toolshed Tuesday no more?

Bad quality : (  Top: J.Crew, Pants: H&M, Necklace: Target, Bracelet: Chico's, Shoes: J.Crew

It's only my second day here, and already the men are so much nicer!

Granted, they are old, potbellied, cigar smokers that push grocery carts around.

You get what you can, right?

Today while I was on my way to a dance class, not one, but three classy with a cigar-y men said kind words to me.

Cigar-y uno: (While I'm getting on the metro and he's getting off) "Ya...you sexy.  You sexy alright."

AL-RIGHT!!!!

Cigar-y dos: (While I'm walking to the dance class and he's washing his car) "Oh well Hello gorgeous."

I thought, "I don't know why this keeps happening!  I look like a drowned rat right now in my dance clothes and nasty hair."  But I will take gorgeous from the sud soaker anyway.

Cigar-y tres: (out of dance class at Einsteins getting lunch...he taps on my shoulder with his wife next to him) "You are beauuuuutiful."

WELL!  Let me pay you off with this bagel kind sir....

Cigar-y quatro: (Walking back to work and "gangsta" on corner says...) "That's a lovely skirt ma'am."

Dang straight!  Let's go meet the parents right now!

I could get used to the cigars....maybe.

disclaimer for the worry minded family members:  Obvi Meg wouldn't take these men to see the parents nor would she buy them bagels....this post is all in jest family....

Just a cognitive disconnect. . .

Don't even pretend like this hasn't happened to you.

It happened to me the other night....um kinda--he "claims" it was a, how you say, a butt call.

Keep your phone outta your panties, man.

I ought to have said that to him.  HAHA can you imagine if I did?

Welllllllllll . . . . .

I made it to D.C.

I feel like I'm kind of sharting myself from being here. . . or I have separation anxiety. . . or both.

I'm on my own. . . for reals, like a grown up.

I intend to make a list of all my strange encounters with the D.C.

Here's to the first one. . . . .

#1) Money sucker and cognitively disconnected to humor.

Everything is so fetching expensive here.  I went to a movie with a friend of mine and her friends, and I decided I was like, starving.  So I stood in the snack bar line for a wiener.  I get up to the front and this teenage boy is like, "Yo, what you want?" (more on that later.)  I looked up at the menu and saw that the wieners were 8 bucks....k fine 7.50

Hold the phone.  Their pigs must be poopin golden nuggets for an 8 buck wiener I thought.

I said back, "Um your hotdogs cost a firstborn, don't they?" (He didn't get it.)  "Sorry, I just moved here today, and the dogs out from where I'm from are like 3 bucks."

He said, "Oh you moved out here today and you're going to a movie?"

I said, "Ya.  That's what I do when I move to a new city by myself with no friends.  I find that the dark black theater really calms me down.  You should try it sometime."

Cue awkward courtesy laugh from popcorn butter stained polo behind counter.

Here's your coke zero, and enjoy the movie.....

They say adolescents don't understand sarcasm until mid puberty.  Let's hope they're right.

God knew what He was doing...

video

Since when do iPhones have bad quality videos?

Me and the computer are seriously like Man vs. Wild.

We just don't really get along....it's a bloody wonder that I am even maintaining this blog.

God knew what he was doing when he gave me my family.  They are like, awesome.

They sang to me on my B-Day, and if you listen closely, (or rather, not closely because she screams it) you'll hear my niece yell

BYU!

Birthdays.  They're not a bad biz.

Mother's Day Slash DAY OF FREAKING BIRTH

oh hey, beat up dancer feet...

Oh hey, white haired bangs....the girls got white hair.

Top: J.Crew, Skirt: Anthro, Shoes: J.Crew, Jewelry: Chicos, Fossil, Thrifted, J.Crew

Yesterday, I had to share Mother's day with the most important day of the year....my freaking birthday.

At the end of church yesterday when a little boy brought me flowers I wanted to be like, "awwww!  You remembered!....wait, you remembered?"  But then I saw every adult woman was getting a box of dirt with weeds coming out of it.

It's okay, I had lots of people sing to me and you'll be hearing me rant about it for days.

You only turn 24 once.

In the mean time,  PLEASE click here to go to the E-Card that my mom sent me yesterday.

You'll pee your pants.

Make fashion your ARMOR!!!

my junior year of college I created a dance piece dedicated to her about breast cancer.

at the spa in Mexico :)
this was only a few short months before she passed.  We were at a family reunion.

Tomorrow is the annual Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure."

I lost my grammy to Breast Cancer almost two years ago.  She battled it for over 20 years, and was the bravest woman I knew.  Everyone I knew LOVED my grammy.

I miss her terribly.

About a month ago I had a woman named Jackie email me about Mesothelioma cancer.  She asked if she could share an article about embracing your beautiful self while still dealing with cancer.

Even though the article is specifically about Mesothelioma cancer, I believe it can be applied to everyone.

If you, or anyone you know has cancer, I hope this article brightens your day!

I love you Grammy!

Fashion as Your Armor
By: Jackie Clark

When you get up in the morning and look in the mirror, what do you see? If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer and see a face that greets you in the morning with a more tiresome and weary look than usual, it’s okay! Mesothelioma treatment will take a lot out of even the most ambitious, impressive women, and when it starts to affect your looks; you may just have to change up some of routines in the morning to get back to feeling like yourself. If you are someone who wants to recapture your beauty, both inner and outer, take a moment and see what fashion can do for you.

Fashion is a tool that people use to feel fabulous and to send the world a message. For example, think about the message that a woman sends who wears a fitted, powerful and sophisticated suit with a pair of killer heels as opposed to a woman who wears a broomstick skirt, a loose peasant top with a pair of measly flats. The choices we make when it comes to fashion can make or break the way we feel about ourselves on a daily basis.

If you find that your fashion sense is sending out the way you would like to be perceived, than you could possibly be in a much better, more confident mood. You will not be hiding anything, and you will be thundering towards the person that you have always wanted to be.

When you want to make sure that your fashion is all about you and how you want to be viewed within the world, consider what you want to say about yourself. What kind of person are you, and how do you feel about the kind of look that you are getting? Do you want to be seen as free-spirited and bright, or would you prefer something a little smokier and darker? Consider how you want to look and what is the best way to go about achieving it.

Though it might seem counter-intuitive, take a moment and look through your closet. It is time to get rid of clothing. Unless you keep your closet very skimmed down, chances are good that there are things in it that you don’t love and which don’t fit you anymore. Now is the time to get those pieces of clothing out and away! When an item doesn’t fit you anymore, it needs to hit the highway. Even if you loved those clothes at one point, they are no longer doing you any good.

Consider how you can donate them or otherwise sell them. This will leave you feeling a lot better about getting new clothes. This is an excellent time for you to think about what you really want in your closet and how much you want it there.

Being a fashionable person is all about choices you make. The fun of fashion is that it is all about you. You don’t have to listen to people unless you value their advice, and as time goes on, you will make some great discoveries about yourself and the world around you. Consider your life and make sure that the choices you make reflect who you want to be. We can mold ourselves into the people we want to become through fashion, so get out there and utilize all that it has to offer!

Get back on the horse

laurabphoto.blogspot.com

ENTIRE OUTFIT:  J.Crew......I'm so ashamed.....you think I could mix brands a little bit.

I have had my fair share of relationships--particularly this past year.

I'll spare you all the count of how many I have had in the past 12 months.

I just ended another one.

What was different about this one, was that I left it completely not understanding why it was ending

Everything seemed so perfect and I was really seeing it as a long term "thing."

Alas, that's why dating sucks.

It truly is a miracle when it works out.....could it be that two people could actually be equally in love with each other enough to tie the knot?

I tell you....love it a bloody miracle.

It's time to get back on the horse.....I'll miss him, though.

Fake Tanning

Once upon a time, I did ballroom dance.

I didn't do it for very long, but while I did, I loved it.

There was something very different about it that I loved.

The partner dancing, the fake tanning, the sparkly sparkliest costumes, and the sensuality of it (in the best sense of the word.)

I really miss doing it....but isn't this picture shweet?

MESMERIZING

I have the pleasure of knowing this boy.

This boy is incredibly talented, and is going to be as famous as Coldplay someday.

A while back, I went to his concert in Provo and was blown away....as in my heart melted....into solid gold.

That's what his music does to people.  It's mesmerizing.

The same kind of mesmerizing as Thor's body in "The Avengers."

Ha

So, this video is an original song by him called Time Machine.

Listen to it.  Be mesmerized. Love it.

Show him some love and comment people!

P.S. In case you were wondering, he starts singing at about 40 seconds...

Obama....get ready!

Obama....are you in there?

Don't worry that my shadow looks like an ape...

Me and my boy Bonaparte...

The King is watching over us...

Often times, I was alone while my friends worked.  So, I entertained myself at the museums... Don't look behind you.

 Eastern Market...

Me, Jefferson, and my girl, Fatoya.

You may have guessed by now, but Pinker... is moving to Washington D.C.

Just like all the other bloggers in this world....

I may not be as FAMOUS as Rockstar Diaries or Daybook, but I do stake my claims in this world.

Above, are some pics for your viewing pleasure of last October when I visited some friends back in D.C.

I'm excited and nervous all at the same time.

Starting a new chapter in life is kinda FREAKY.

I leave in two weeks.  Yeesh.
